Bitch book

One last post about my Bitch project...
I am currently producing books for some of my past projects and have created a book for Bitch through printerpix.  Please feel free to check it out here.

http://printerpix.elasticbeanstalk.com/share/album.aspx?album=345cf8c01e524d8282c74356578144645d2e53395f9040c1b979912c1caa4dd1&idEmp=3&lang=en_GB

Please note: This project will be available for a limited time only as Printerpix deletes any projects after 30 days of inactivity, so if you are interested in acquiring one you should consider it sooner rather than later.

Blog Retiring

After maintaining it for years, I am finally officially retiring this blog.  I will not be deleting it and it can continue to act as a record of my thoughts and of the Bitch & Claude projects.  Please feel free to friend & follow me on Facebook or check out my website or other blogs to see what I'm up to.  Thanks so much for your continued support.

Away and Afield

As some of you may now, I am in a transitional phase of my life right now, having separated from my husband Charles G. Wilbur and anticipating a pending divorce.  I closed my 2ndStory Space Studio at the end of June and am traveling some currently, visiting my friend Laurel Luckey in Kansas for awhile in early July.  (Thank you Laurel for helping me document my series of Performances or the Kansas Sky, excerpts pictured here.)

I will not be able to maintain this blog during this transition and may actually retire it; I invite you to friend me on Facebook where I am better documenting my travels.

Thanks so much and I'll let you know when I get settled.

Revisitation Reception

Here are some photos from the Revisitation reception yesterday, of myself with my work and with fellow exhibitors David Ottinger & Joanne Kluba.  Thank you so much mom for the wonderful lay assistant robe; how perfect for the show!  If you missed the reception, the show runs through the end of the month so you can still stop in and check it out.

I am excited to have works on display in Revisitation with Joanne Kluba & David Ottinger, opening this week on July 10 from 5 - 9 PM.  We had a wonderful experience drawing from life at the art museum during the Mourners exhibit awhile back and are honored to share our drawings at the McKendree University Gallery of Art.

This is my last show in St. Louis - I will be leaving town July 11.  So please drop by and say goodbye before I leave town.

Art of the Week: Caged Bird

A hearty thank you to Andrew Limanni for selling me this wonderful bird cage from your treasure trove.  Now I could finish my Caged Bird assemblage, incorporating one of the porcelain birds from my grandmother's estate that unfortunately broke.  The broken bird has been enhanced along the breaks with gold leaf to show how ephemeral and fleeting our time here is, and how fragile and precious our lives...

Hair Cutting Piece

Hair Cutting Piece

Performed thoughout Fluxfest Chicago 2014
In memory of my father, James Alan Weigel, 1948-2014

Life is fleeting.  The most that each and every one of us truly has to offer is a series of shared experiences: our hopes, dreams, inspirations, joys,sorrows...

Sometimes these connections transcend time and place, and sometimes they are lost to history, all but forgotten except by a select few.

In observance of our being together in this time and place, I invite you to cut off a piece of my hair to keep as a memento of this connection.

May we revel in sharing our lives in this moment and honor and celebrate our present time together, for it truly is a gift and is, at best, on loan to us.

I will have small rubber bands and scissors on me over the weekend for just this purpose.  Feel free to approach me at any time.

Third Thursday Critique Group

My 2ndStory Space Third Thursday open critique group met for the first time last night, and I had a lovely meeting with Carolyn Hasenfratz & Christine Ilewski.  Thank you both for attending.

And thank you Carolyn for the wonderful writeup.  I love events like this too, because they inspire me, push me to think about my art in new ways, offer opportunities to see others' amazing works, and nurture my soul.  It's always good to connect with fellow artists and creatives!

Here's a link to Carolyn's blog post about the premiere Third Thursday event at 2ndStory Space.  Please check it out.

Art of the Week: Bloodletting Dress

I am about to embark on my largest scale installation to date, upcoming in late February at Blue Jacket Books in Xenia, Ohio.  The installation, called Bloodletting, will further my explorations into menstruation and female reproductive health.  The creation of the work will be a sort of performance unto itself, and I modified another found dress (actually purchased on a previous trip to Ohio) with faux flowers for the experience.  I have included some preview photos here as Art of the Week and as a preview of this next Dressing for the Occasion ensemble.

More information about Bloodletting will be forthcoming after the fact.  It is a truly rare opportunity to be able to create such a large-scale work themed around such a taboo topic as menstruation, and I am most grateful to Lawrence Hammar for inviting me to do so.  Aspects of the installation will be included throughout the space to further viewer interaction, with the entire experience presented in such a way that it must be seen in person in order to be fully absorbed.

My goal is to create a "destination installation" of sorts, a large-scale artwork of considerable scope in an unexpected setting that draws people to bear witness and prompts discussion - we shall see how it goes...  That's a very lofty goal and just having such a work remain on view for any length of time is a big first step.  So here's hoping...
